After a fast-paced and fiercely contested Auckland Combined Points Netball Tournament on Wednesday 5 August, Westlake Girls High School narrowly missed claiming the title of Auckland’s premier netball school, finishing an outstanding second overall. Westlake Girls and Mount Albert Grammar School (MAGS) ended the round-robin stage level on competition points, with goal percentage ultimately proving the deciding factor in crowning the overall champion.
The Auckland Combined Points Trophy is one of the region’s most prestigious school netball competitions, bringing together leading programmes from across Auckland and beyond. This year, the tournament featured schools from as far south as Hamilton Girls’ High School and as far north as Bay of Islands College. To compete for the overall title, each school enters its top Year 9, Year 10, and Premier teams, with results across all three grades combined after pool play to determine the final standings.
Westlake Girls delivered exceptional performances across every grade, with all three teams advancing to the playoff rounds. The Premier team produced an impressive campaign to finish runners-up in the prem grade, Year 10-1 was narrowly defeated by Auckland Girls’ Grammar School by a single goal in the quarter-finals, and Year 9-1 reached the semi-finals before falling to MAGS.
In a tournament featuring 120 teams, Westlake Girls’ second-place finish overall is a remarkable achievement and a testament to the depth, quality, and consistency of the school’s netball programme.

Their skill, determination, resilience, and sportsmanship were on full display throughout the tournament, showcasing the strength of a programme that proudly fielded 46 teams this season and continues to be one of the leading school netball programmes in the country.
