Westlake’s three premier choirs shared their music with audiences across the North Shore during a special day-long tour – culminating in a memorable performance for Stuart Mannings, the first music teacher at the original co-educational Westlake High School.
In the final stages of preparation for the New Zealand Choral Federation’s Big Sing National Finale, the singers performed at Takapuna Normal Intermediate, Murrays Bay Intermediate and Mayfair Retirement Village on Friday 21 August.
At the two intermediate schools, the choirs offered younger students a lively introduction to Westlake’s choral culture and a glimpse of the musical opportunities awaiting them at secondary school.
The final performance of the day held particular significance. Among the audience at Mayfair Retirement Village was 89-year-old Stuart Manins, whose work helped lay the foundations for Westlake’s enduring musical legacy.
Performing for younger students, members of the wider community and a remarkable figure from Westlake’s history made the pre-Finale tour a memorable experience for everyone involved.
