Staff Achievement: World-Stage Recognition for Head of Chemistry

2024 Award

We are thrilled to share some incredible news from our staff community.

Our Head of Chemistry and Specialist Classroom Teacher, Alex van der Loos, has been appointed as a global Research Advisor for the International Coalition of Girls’ Schools (ICGS). This well-deserved appointment follows her success at the ICGS Baltimore conference, where she was named the 2024 Global Action Research Collaborative Researcher of the Year for her outstanding work in girls’ education.

Over the next 18 months, Alex will mentor an international cohort of educators, guiding research projects that will shape the future of teaching in girls’ schools worldwide. To kick off her new role and present her research, she will be traveling to Toronto, Canada, at the end of this term.

Having one of our own teachers representing Westlake Girls High School on the world stage is an immense privilege. Alex’s achievement highlights the incredible talent we have within our walls and our commitment to leading the way in education.

Congratulations, Alex! We are proud of you!
