This week, the students, staff, and parents enjoyed a night of remarkable success at the Auckland Live Showdown Theatre Awards at the Bruce Mason Theatre. These awards celebrate the very best in school productions, with 29 plays and musicals competing for 30 awards. We had 47 nominations across 22 categories and won seven trophies. This is a spectacular achievement – Les Misérables won six awards.
Into the Woods was awarded:
- Best costume Design (Molly Smith, WBHS)
- Best Sound Design (Brad Jansen & Ian Wang, WBHS)
- Best Supporting Actor in a Musical (Gabby Galao, WGHS)
- Best Leading Actor in a Musical (Katie Brown, WGHS)
- Best Musical Direction (Warwick Robinson)
- Best Direction (Nick Brown)
Into the Woods competed against 29 other plays and musicals for the supreme award, which it won!

Our Stellar Record
With the exception of only one year, Westlake Schools’ combined productions have now won either the Best Play, Best Musical, or Outstanding Production Award EVERY YEAR that we have competed. We want to acknowledge the countless hours that staff and students put in to make these productions so successful.
