Somi Kim (alumna graduate, 2007) is the pianist in the NZ Trio and last Wednesday they visited Westlake to perform for the Year 10-13 music students. The trio (piano, violin and cello) are a professional chamber group and they played four contrasting pieces from different music periods and styles, both classical and contemporary. A highlight was a piece ‘Kintsugi’ by female NZ composer, Salina Fisher, who wrote the piece especially for the group. This musicians also answered questions from the floor and talked about their musical background and how they work as a team. It was really inspiring for our young musicians to hear a past student perform to such a high level and we hope they visit us again soon.
