From the Principal

Kia ora parents and caregivers,

We are now at the end of week six, with just four weeks left until the end of Term one. The improved weather has been welcomed, especially by our sports teams and the rescheduled Athletics Day (for competitors only) went ahead on Tuesday this week.

We held our Year 9 Tabloid Sports Day on March 1st and it was great to see our new students working positively together with our Year 13 leaders helping to run activities.

We also welcomed new and existing Māori ākonga and whānau to our first Whānau Hui evening on 1 March. It was a great evening, meeting so many whanau and celebrating the success of their students. We are delighted that this year, for the first time, we have more students learning Te Reo Māori than any other language. We are looking forward to hosting our first Pasifika Fono evening next Wednesday.

At the end of February, we held our Clubs Expo, which is an opportunity for students sign up to one or more of our 75 Clubs and Activities on offer. Joining a club is a great way for students to get involved in activities outside the classroom, discover a new passion and make new like-minded friends.

For Year 13 students and parents we are hosting a Tertiary night on 21st March at the Events Centre. This is an important opportunity to learn more about the programmes on offer at our Universities, and to understand the application process. On Thursday 23 March we will be hosting Year 11 Parents to a NCEA evening where we will explain the changes to the NCEA Level 1 qualification system and what that will mean for the students who are part of the transition between the two systems.

We have been advised by the PPTA that secondary school teachers will be taking industrial action on Thursday March 16th. This is as a result of a lack of agreement being reached in their negotiations with the Government and with many of our teachers involved, we will be unable to open for instruction. You would have received an email about this and if you require supervision for your child on Thursday March 16 please contact their Dean to arrange this.

Below is a list of upcoming key events, and you will receive further communication about these.

Have a lovely weekend.

Jane Stanley
Principal
