Fifteen races. Fifteen wins. And a fourth consecutive Girls’ Inter-Dominion title for Westlake Girls!
Our sailing team has finished another outstanding season by claiming the Girls’ Inter-Dominion trophy, going unbeaten against leading school teams from Australia and New Zealand, including Moreton Bay, Faham and Ascham Colleges, Nelson Girls and Whangārei Girls.
Captained by Jess Handley, the team included Bella Jenkins, Gretel Satterthwaite, Danielle Robertson, Emily Turner, Charlotte Handley, Julia Nguyen and Year 10 student Kiera Dimock.
Competing in 420 team racing, the girls needed more than speed to succeed. With three boats racing for each team, strategy, communication and teamwork are just as important as crossing the finish line first.
There was more to celebrate on the opening day when New Zealand claimed the Nations Cup, with results from Auckland Grammar and Westlake Girls helping secure the win over Australia.
The competition was also a special farewell for Year 13 sailors Jess Handley, Gretel Satterthwaite and Danielle Robertson, who have been part of the team’s success over the past five years.
And the recognition didn’t stop on the water! At the 2026 Westlake Girls Sports Awards, the sailing team was named Team of the Year for the second consecutive year, while Robbie Wooldridge received Coach of the Year.
A big thank you to Robbie and team manager Paula Satterthwaite for their commitment and support throughout the season.
Four years at the top is quite something. Congratulations, girls!
