Cantare Captivates with Auckland Choral Society

On Sunday, 15 October, Cantare choir performed the masterpiece work ‘St Matthew Passion’ by Bach with the Auckland Choral Society in the Auckland Town Hall. The Director of Auckland Choral, Uwe Grodd conducted the performance. Earlier in the year, Mr Grodd also adjudicated the Westlake Girls Soloist Competition.

Bach’s work depicts the Christian Easter story of Christ’s suffering and death on the cross through a double choir, soloists, and two orchestras. Cantare sang the ripieno chorus in German. This occurred in the first half of the three-hour work and was an outstanding addition to the 150-strong ensemble.
