Westlake Girls top cricketeer, Brooke James, represented New Zealand at the World Under 22 Indoor Cricket Championship in Melbourne during the October school holidays and won gold.

In the preliminary rounds, the team had mixed results and beat South Africa in the semi-final, only to meet the confident Australian team in the final who they had lost to previously. Clearly the underdogs, New Zealand crept past the Aussies to win the final by one exciting run.

The Year 13 student had an outstanding tournament with the bat closing out most of the games.  However, it was with the ball that Brooke featured, finishing the event as the tournament’s top wicket-taker with 18 wickets.  Brooke was also named the player of the match in two matches and was selected for the World 8 tournament team.
