Art and Fashion showcase

On Wednesday 26 October the Art and Technology departments held their much anticipated showcase.  This was the first showcase since 2018 and was the culmination of a year of effort by all of our students.

The event was a great success.  Invited guests, including friends and whānau, mingled and viewed the displays of art as well as the work of students from Food, Digital and Hard Materials Technology. The highlight of the evening was a fashion show of Year 10-13 Fabric Technology and Year 12-13 Fashion and Design student work.

The show was compèred by Savvy Marston and Ray Carr and was opened by Maya Goren dressed in her Wearable Art piece. She was followed by a selection of Year 10 students in their comfortable pyjamas and Year 11 students in their “casual wear”.

The Year 12 students highlighted the importance of sustainability in their garments which included repurposed items and fabrics.  Examples included garments made entirely from old denim jeans!

The Year 13 students wore the garments they created this year, based on their costume brief. They certainly took this to heart and created a range of inspiring and meaningful garments including cultural and historical costume pieces inspired by real and fictional characters.
