A Lesson in Economics Worth Celebrating!

2026 NZ Economics Competition Awards_081

What does it take to rank among the top 10% of Economics students in New Zealand? A pretty good head for numbers, some sharp thinking and a solid understanding of how the world works!

Two of our Year 12 students, Aiza Batool and Emily Nguyen, have done just that, earning High Distinctions in the University of Auckland’s 2026 New Zealand Economics Competition.

The competition attracted more than 2,500 students from across the country, testing their knowledge of economics with questions set at first-year university level. No small challenge!

To celebrate their achievements, Aiza and Emily, along with their families, attended the New Zealand Economics Competition Awards Presentation Evening on 16 October at the University of Auckland’s Sir Owen G Glenn Building.

A big congratulations to both students on their results, and well done to all our Westlake girls who took part. It’s great to see our young economists putting their knowledge to the test on a national stage!
