On Thursday 11 June, our Westlake Girls GymSport team proudly represented the school at the Auckland Secondary Schools GymSports Championships, held at Bruce Pulman Recreation Centre. Taking a team of nine dedicated athletes from Years 9–13, the day was a fantastic reflection of both talent and team spirit.

From the moment competition began, our athletes demonstrated not only their skill and preparation but also their resilience and composure under pressure. Across both rhythmic and artistic disciplines, each gymnast performed with confidence and determination, doing themselves and Westlake Girls proud.

What stood out most throughout the day was the strong sense of camaraderie within the team. Whether competing on the floor or cheering enthusiastically from the sidelines, our athletes showed unwavering support for one another, creating a positive and encouraging environment that lifted everyone’s performance.

Their hard work was rewarded with an impressive medal haul, with the team bringing home five podium finishes:

  • Athena Li1st Place, Rhythmic Senior Internationals
  • Adele Northin1st Place, Rhythmic Opens
  • Taylor Christie2nd Place, Artistic GFA 5 & 6
  • Ward Helal2nd Place, Artistic Women’s Step 5
  • Rose Dagger3rd Place, Rhythmic National Level 8

These results are a testament to the dedication, discipline, and commitment each gymnast has shown in their training. Achieving success at this level requires not only technical excellence but also mental focus and perseverance—qualities our athletes displayed in abundance.

We are incredibly proud of all nine gymnasts who represented Westlake Girls so admirably. Every member of the team contributed to the day’s success, whether through competition results or the support they provided to their teammates.

A huge congratulations to our medal winners and to the entire team for an outstanding performance. We look forward to seeing these athletes continue to grow and succeed in future competitions.
