Congratulations to Isabella Drummond and Jappan Kaur who represented Westlake Girls in the 2023 Race Unity Speech Awards Competition in May. Isabella placed first in the Auckland Regional Competition and Jappan won her heat. Both students will participate in the National Speech Awards in June at the Manukau Institute of Technology together with other young people from 15 regions. They will also participate in a one-day Race Unity Hui to delve more deeply into issues surrounding race relations for our rangitahi and other people in New Zealand.
Isabella Drummond said “I was very humbled to have won, placing first in the Auckland regional competition. Last year I placed runner-up in Auckland, so it means a lot knowing that I have grown and developed as an orator over the past year.”
