From the Principal

Kia ora Parents and Caregivers,

Summer Tournament was held this week, and it’s been wonderful to see our students out there competing against other high schools from around New Zealand. A big congratulations to all of our teams and individuals for an outstanding week.  I think we have appreciated it all the more, as we remember heading into Level 4 lockdown exactly one year ago.

While necessary, that lockdown caused deep disappointment as it disrupted or cancelled myriad events, trips and activities. We’ve experienced a couple of blips this year, however we’ve been able to hold all of our planned events to date, including our Whānau Evening, Swimming Sports, Athletics Day and Summer Tournament. Our Pasifika Fono is rescheduled to 7 April. These are important events on our school calendar, and we don’t take them for granted anymore. We enjoy the times we can come together as a school community.

Thank you to all our parents who attended the Year 11 NCEA and Year 9 Parent Information Evenings – the latter was held the same evening as Emirates Team New Zealand won the America’s Cup, so your dedication to be in our gym rather than at the viaduct was especially appreciated!

As Easter approaches next week, there is a growing anticipation across the school that the end of term is just around the corner. It’s been a whirlwind of activity as we have moved in and out of lockdown, and I am extremely proud of everything our students have accomplished, despite the disruptions.

I hope you have a wonderful Easter break with your family and enjoy the last of the summer weather. It’s a good time to reflect on the things we are grateful for, and the freedom we currently enjoy in Aotearoa New Zealand.
