From the Principal

Kia ora Parents and Caregivers,

With just three days left until the Christmas holidays, our school will remain a buzz of activity right through until the end. Our seniors will be completing their NCEA exams on Wednesday (a little later than normal) – the same day we will celebrate our Year 9 and 10 achievements at their Junior Prize-giving.

On Tuesday, our Year 10 students will have their chance to shine at our Stage Spectacular. I know they have enjoyed preparing for this special event, and it will be a day of fun and frivolity – a lovely way to finish 2020.

As this is our last newsletter for the year, I’d like to thank all of our parents, caregivers and whānau for your support and commitment to our school over what can only be described as a very challenging year. You’ve navigated the path with us, and we are grateful to have reached the end with our students tracking above average and making the most of the opportunities before them. We’ve seen some genuine success academically and in our extra-curricular groups and teams, which just goes to show that good things do come out of trials. I hope, as we leave this year behind, those achievements and successes become significant memories.

I especially want to thank the parents, caregivers, staff and students who have been part of the conversation to ensure all students feel included at Westlake. It’s been a very important piece of work for us which will continue into 2021 and beyond.

I also want to thank our Year 13 parents, as your daughter’s time with us comes to an end. We wish her all the very best for the next step in her journey.

Lastly, I want to wish each and every one of you a wonderful Christmas and holiday break. I know we are all looking forward to winding down and spending some quality time with family and friends around the BBQ.

Be safe as you travel and we will be in touch before school reopens in February.

Kindest regards
Jane Stanley
