Silver for Squash at the Auckland Champs

Westlake Girls won silver at the Auckland Secondary Schools Squash Teams Championship at North Shore Squash Club this week.

Despite losing number one player Lucy Cadness-Aspinall due to tonsilitis the team competed well making it through to the final where they faced traditional foe, Takapuna Grammar.

Year 13 student, Aishah Lotfy, lead the team and stepped up to face the number one seed of the tournament admirably, Justine Pausch.  Lotfy played with skill and determination, losing narrowly in a tough battle in the fifth and final set 7-11.

Earlier in the day, the team were successful against Epsom Grammar and Macleans College to reach the final.

The day was also a valuable experience for the two Year 9 members of the team who were playing in their first tournament. Special thanks to Westlake Girls new Premier coach Sion Wiggin for his support on the day.
