This year the Otago Junior Mathematics Competition was staged in two parts. From the initial 4500 students sitting, only 1600 made it through to the second part. In a year during which the standard of participants has been reported to have been very high, among the prize winners was Year 9 student, Elaine Zhou, who placed among the top 30 entrants.
