Year 12 student Leah Richmond recently flew to Orlando Florida to represent New Zealand and compete in the World Cheerleading Championship. Leah competed in both the New Zealand All-Girl Elite team, and the New Zealand Co-ed Elite team.
They competed against teams made up of the best of the best, from countries including Japan, Mexico, Finland, Australia, Brazil and Ecuador.
The All-Girl Elite team ranked 2nd in the World to win the Silver medal.
Leah also competed in USASF Cheerleading Worlds in the International Open Large Co-ed division. This competition is not only for your country but for your gym, so there are over 30,000 athletes at this event. The team placed 3rd and won Bronze which is the first time the New Zealand team have ever received a medal in the twenty years they have entered this event.
This is a massive achievement for All Star Cheerleading and New Zealand!
