From the Principal

Kia ora Parents and Caregivers,

It’s the time of year when our students’ efforts are realised and rewarded, and over the past two weeks we’ve enjoyed celebrating at our Music Awards, Sports Awards, Senior Academic Prize-Giving, Special Awards and Leavers’ Afternoon Tea. Despite the disruptions of 2020, there has been a lot of success and I’m delighted that Alert Levels allowed us to gather for these special occasions.

The rhythm of the school will change significantly from Monday, with our Junior exams commencing, and our Seniors beginning their study leave for NCEA exams beginning on 16 November. I wish all of our students the very best for these important assessments. You can find details about Junior Exams in this newsletter under “Important Things to Note”.

At our Special Awards ceremony on Wednesday, we were delighted to announce our 2021 Prefects, including Head Prefect Grace Chen and Deputy Head Prefect Charis Allison. I’m very much looking forward to working with these two outstanding students next year, along with the rest of the Prefect team.

I want to thank our outgoing Prefect team, led by Head Prefect Kaia Tupu-South and Deputy Head Prefect Darcy Frank. All 90 Prefects made a significant contribution to our school, encouraging other students during a particularly challenging year. Part of their legacy will be the comprehensive results obtained from their “Becoming Cultured Swans” project, which will help shape the way we develop inclusivity at our school.

Lastly, a very big thank you to everyone who contributed to our first-ever Giving Day last week. We were delighted to raise more than $27,000 for our new Event Centre, which is due to open in May. Your generosity and support means a lot and we look forward to welcoming many of our donors to the opening ceremony.

While our Seniors have completed their year of learning, our Juniors still have some exciting things on the calendar, like our Stage Spectacular for Year 10s, and our Junior Prize-Giving on 9 December.

Kindest regards

Jane Stanley

Principal
