From the Principal

Kia ora parents and caregivers,

Firstly, I’d like to thank everyone who attended our Aotearoa New Zealand Histories Curriculum evening last week. It was great to see so many of you willing to contribute to the draft, and help shape how New Zealand’s history will be taught. Your feedback will be collated and become part of our school’s submission to the Ministry of Education.

I enjoyed attending our Year 13 ball two weeks ago, which was a great success. Our students represented our school with pride and we received some lovely comments from Eden Park staff.

As the cooler weather makes its presence felt, we have winter sport kicking off, with several codes showing promise for a great season. In fact, it’s an action-packed June, with more parent events, music performances and celebrations (including Samoan Language Week) coming up. Make sure you check the calendar under “Important Things to note” or visit our website under Starting at Westlake/Key Dates.

Finally, a gentle reminder to please encourage your daughter to wear a mask if she is on a public bus. We are continuing to field complaints from members of the public about our students not wearing masks, and would appreciate your assistance in making sure Westlake complies with government directive.

I hope you have a lovely Queen’s Birthday next week-end – the last public holiday until spring! The introduction of a Matariki Celebration in June 2022 will certainly help brighten up winter.

Jane Stanley
