We received information from the Auckland Transport Community Transport Coordinator about a ‘bicycle accident vs car door’ on 20th October. The incident involved a cyclist and a caregiver dropping off a WGHS student in the transit lane (Southbound on Wairau Road, by Atlas Concrete). The cyclist hit the car door as the student opened it to exit the vehicle. The cyclist was taken to hospital in an ambulance and required surgery. Unfortunately, a similar accident happened outside Westlake Boys a few year ago.

This is a timely reminder of the risks involved of stopping in transit lanes or on broken yellow lines when dropping off at school. We recommend using one of the surrounded streets as a drop off/collection point. Smalls Farm does not allow parking for school drop off/collection and issues infringement tickets.
